2 min read

The Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia (RA) has announced the names of a select group of highly efficient academic researchers of the country. Included in the list is Dr. Vahram Ter-Matevosyan, Political Science and International Affairs (PSIA) Program Chair at the American University of Armenia (AUA) and also a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences, who is recognized as a highly efficient scholar in the field of Armenian studies and humanities. While the Ministry announces the list of highly efficient scholars annually, it is the first time that a professor from the AUA College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is included in the list in the category of Armenian studies and humanities.

The selection process has included consideration of Dr. Ter-Matevosyan’s academic accomplishments in the period of 2015–2020. Dr. Ter-Matevosyan has published a monograph with Palgrave Macmillan in 2019 and twenty-two articles in several leading academic journals, such as Nations and Nationalism, Eurasian Geography and Economics, Middle Eastern Studies, Turkish Studies, Third World Quarterly, Caucasus Survey, Genocide Studies and Prevention, Diaspora Studies, as well as chapters in edited volumes published by Routledge and Springer. In addition, a number of other components have been considered in the selection process, such as participation in academic conferences, doctoral supervisions, and other criteria relevant to scholarly performance.

“It is a highly motivating factor that Armenia’s Science Committee has created a centralized system where all the major academic achievements are archived and duly acknowledged. Once your name is included in the list, you have a strong drive to keep publishing in various leading outlets in order to reappear in the next year’s list” Dr. Ter-Matevosyan shares his thoughts on the occasion of this recognition.

The Political Science and International Affairs (PSIA) program of the American University of Armenia (AUA) equips students with advanced analytical reasoning, critical thinking, and communication skills through the study of political science and international affairs, emphasizing local and global perspectives and practical applications of theory. The program provides world-class teaching and research, producing graduates who can best contribute to the development of the nation.
